Climb Quest supports HAF programme

During the April Half term, on the 9th and 10th April, Climb Quest supported Milton Keynes Councils’ HAF programme, which provides activities and food sessions during the holidays, for young people and their families, who are entitled to benefit related free school meals. The HAF programme is funded by the Department for Education, with the aims of supporting young people to eat healthier, be more active, take part in engaging and enriching activities and not be socially isolated by engaging them with local services.

Climb Quest were delighted to hold 2 SEN specific sessions per day, offering over 100 young people and their families the opportunity to spend a 4-hour block at the centre. Running to a set schedule, the first hour allowed guests to explore all 25 walls as well as both extreme challenges to begin exploring and taking on new challenges. The second hour consisted of a healthy snack and refreshments, in addition to getting involved with a range of sport related and table-based activities. This time encouraged one another to bond and make new friends, as well as getting to know our instructors. After some time to rest, the children were eager to head back onto the arena for their final hour of climbing where we saw them grow and achieve new heights as a result of instructor support and their growing confidence. For the final hour, the children wound down and had their lunch,  served our freshly made pizzas, veg bowls and crisps before heading home.

From the feedback we received, everyone had an excellent day with our instructors adapting to all abilities and tailoring individual experiences. One 5* review in particular read

‘fun day with two hours climbing plus snacks, games and lunch. Went as part of a holiday club. Group size was perfect, the other children were friendly … staff were on hand to help and encourage. Everywhere was clean. Highly recommend.’

By partnering with the HAF programme, we were able to create a safe space for children to learn and grow in a supportive environment. As well as being committed to providing a fun filled experience, it was equally important for us to relieve the pressure on families and ensure that a meal was provided. Getting involved with this programme was a great opportunity to support SEN children and their families, allowing us to continue our dedication to inclusivity, and we look forward to supporting the scheme in the future.
